2010 update! Now entering its third year with an expansion to New York City, the 2010 Maloof Money Cup, presented by Vans and Monster Energy, has been dubbed the “world’s greatest skateboarding event.” The event was created by Joe and Gavin Maloof, whose family is known for their sports & entertainment ventures from the Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise and more. With a mission to work closely with the skaters and the industry to create a new type of contest, the Maloof Money Cup has featured the most diverse group of skaters ever assembled to compete on one-of-a-kind courses designed by the skaters themselves. The result is a platform for some of the most progressive skateboarding ever seen. The inaugural Maloof Money Cup was held at the OC Fair & Event Center in Orange County, Calif. and drew more than 200,000 attendees. With a deep respect and belief that professional skateboarders are world class athletes and should be compensated as such, the Maloof Money Cup 2010 contests offer a combined purse of nearly $750,000 in cash and prizes with $100,000 going to the of each street contest and $75,000 to the vert winner in OC-- an amount more than doubling the first place prize of any other skate contest in history. In 2010, the Maloof Money Cup will expand to New York City. Taking place June 5-6 at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, the Maloofs have forged an agreement to donate the world-class skate park they will build for the Volcom Pro Street competition to the City of New York through the NYC Parks and Recreation Department’s “Adopt-A-Park” program. The donation of the skate park is made possible by the substantial contributions of Vans and Monster Energy. The Maloof Money Cup Orange County will return to the OC Fair & Event Center August 4-8. Expanding in 2010 to five days, the event will take place during the OC Fair and features a Pro Vert Contest and the Volcom Pro Street, as well as the Women’s Pro Street and World Industries amateur competitions. |
