"Everyone at Vans is excited about the addition of the Masters to the Orange County Maloof Money Cup," said Steve Van Doren, Vans vice president of events and promotions. "It's important for kids to see the roots of skateboarding and how it's influenced skating today. We feel honored to be able to see these guys still shredding."
Duane Peters is credited for inventing many tricks , such as the "acid drop" into a pool/bowl, the "layback grind", the "Indy air", the "Sweeper", the "backside layback grind revert", the "fakie hang-up" (a.k.a. "Disaster"), the "invert revert", the "fakie thruster", and the "loop of death", a full 360-degree rotation in a specially designed loop. He also, along with Neil Blender , helped to evolve the footplant into the more dynamic fastplant
Peters was one of the very first high profile skaters to embrace punk rock, cutting his hair short and narrowing his jeans when most skaters were still wearing 1970s fashions. As shown on an Eye on LA television segment, Duane left the punk rock movement for the softer sound of "New Romantic/White Funk" music; even forming a band by the name of Tan-Dane.
Peters was named Transworld Skateboarding's "Legend" in 2003. He is a professional skateboarder who rides for Pocket Pistols Skates. In May 2005, Black Label Skateboards released a biographic film, entitled Who Cares: The Duane Peters Story, and a second documentary is planned by havocTV, focusing on Peters' and Parks' path to sobriety.
Along with skateboarding, Peters is a well-known punk rock singer. He has formed bands such as the US Bombs , Political Crap, Die' Hunns (also known as Duane Peters and The Hunns), Duane Peters Gunfight, and Exploding Fuckdolls, and more recently The Great Unwashed.
Peters has been casted to star in the independent film "Hostility Hotel" which is scheduled for release in 2010.

Lester Kasai was born and raised in Anaheim California. Coming from a Japanese/Hawaiian background, Lester started skating in 1977 at his first skatepark “Skatopia” in Buena Park California. He became one of the famous Orange County locals who skated at all the popular spots back in the day including Concrete Wave, Big "O", Skate City, Upland Pipeline, Del Mar Skateranch and Sadlands. He continued on the worldwide competition circuit during the 80’s and early 90’s. Lester was known for his big airs, his Sims “Splash” deck and his House of Kasai “Oak Leaf” deck during the 80’s. He was also known for inventing the “Beni Hana” and he was the second person to land a 540 air. At the age of 43, Lester still skates almost every day, travels the world and competes in Masters Competitions. In 2009, Lester won 1st place overall for the Masters World Bowl Rankings.
Pat Ngoho rose from the deep rooted seeds of the Dogtown Movement and embraced all that it stands for. He declined an early offer to join Stacy Peralta and the Bones Brigade. His skating has always been motivated by sessions and people, and to this day he still finds inspiration in both. His skating began in the driveways of West Los Angeles and eventually moved on to the windfall of backyard pools near his home. The Marina Skatepark opened and he was exposed to the epicenter of skateboarding, but as quickly as it came, it left and he returned back to the pools and banks of his early days. He remained in touch with friends such as Christian Hosoi who got him interested in Street Skating and within a couple of years he was again skating competitively. Today Pat splits his time between Skateboarding and Art. He occasionally skates on the World Cup of Skateboarding Tour and pursues his personal art as well as showing with the Love and Guts Art Show that he co-founded.
Ben Schroeder first got sponsored in 1984 and quickly developed his own brand of skating. Ben invented tricks like the Tail Slide, Nose Bone Frontside Grind, Lipslide Revert, Lien to Tail Revert, Tail Drop Revert, Alley Oop Lipslide, Alley Oop Nose Grind, Alley Oop 50/50 to Fakie, Disco Lip, Sugarcane, and many more. In 1993 Ben was in a car accident that he was not to survive more than a week from his injuries. Ben proved everyone wrong, with his perseverance, and determination, he will be skating hard for many years to come. He has been building and designing skateparks over the last ten years or so and has his own company Locomotive Skateparks.

Hosoi started skating at five years old with veterans such as Shogo Kubo , Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta , and Jay Adams as his idols. His father, Ivan "Pops" Hosoi became the manager of the Marina Del Rey Skatepark, and Christian quit school and spent his time there where he quickly developed his emerging talent. In 1979, as an amateur, Hosoi was sponsored by Powell Peralta . He left Powell Peralta a year later when they wouldn't allow him to turn professional and joined Dogtown Skateboards. After Dogtown went out of business shortly thereafter, he turned pro at the age of 14 with Sims Skateboards.
Christian Hosoi emerged as one of the top competitors of vertical riding alongside such pros as Steve Caballero , Mike McGill , Mark "Gator" Rogowski with an eventual rivalry developing with Tony Hawk with contrasting styles in both skateboarding and lifestyles-Hosoi, known for his flair and graceful style, and Hawk raising the bar with his technical ability and difficult tricks. Hosoi invented the Christ Air and Rocket Air, and was renowned for pulling huge aerials; at one point he was the world record holder. Vertical skateboarding grew in spectator popularity with prize money to match. This, combined with major endorsements with Converse x , Swatch , and Jimmy'Z , as well as receiving a pro model wheel, the OJ II Hosoi Rocket through Santa Cruz Speed Wheels, earning Hosoi more money than he'd ever dreamed of. In 1984 he formed his own company, Hosoi Skates, first distributed through Skull Skates, then through NHS-INC. The board proved to be so popular that it was counterfeited. When street skating began to emerge in the mid-to-late 80s, Hosoi proved a threat as well, winning both the vert and street contests at the Lotte Cup contest in Japan in 1989 He was supported by the skate industry during his incarceration. Chad Muska released a tribute deck featuring an homage to Hosoi's first pro model deck on Sims with the Rising Sun graphic. He also received guest models through Mark Gonzales ' Krooked Skateboards and Pocket Pistols Skateboards; both decks feature his famous Hammerhead shape.
In June 2004 Hosoi's sentence was reduced for good behavior and he was released on parole. Hosoi married girlfriend Jennifer Lee. He became a born-again Christian through the urging of his wife and her uncle, Pastor Christopher Swain. He also earned his high school diploma. Hosoi continues to be open about his new-found faith, having become ordained as an associate pastor, and has resumed his skateboarding career. Hosoi was the subject of the 2006 documentary film Rising Son - The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi that detailed his initial success, drug addiction, and conversion to Christianity.
Christian joined forces with Jay Haizlip, Brian Sumner, and others to create The Uprising, a skate based ministry.
In 2008 The Uprising was documented by Steelroots , a Christian Youth Television Network, and made into a reality television show. The first season comprised eight episodes following the ministry around California and England. Season 2, began airing in fall 2009.
