(Kimberley, South Africa – September 30, 2011) – Today, the Maloof Money Cup South Africa kicked off in Kimberley with the local South African open qualifier and part one of the Pro Vert World Championships. All 10 pros will compete in the second half of the contest, the Mini Mega ramp, on Saturday with the winner taking home $75,000 cash. Skaters from the Northern Cape competed in the local qualifiers Friday with four skaters advancing to Sunday’s South African Am Street contest.

Business is booming in Kimberley with skate fans across the country descending on the small town, once famous for its diamond mines. Hotels are sold out, restaurants and businesses are hiring additional workers to help with the influx of fans. Dozens of busses have arrived, carrying fans from cities across the Northern Cape and local campgrounds are overflowing. Officials from the Northern Cape Provincial Government said “we haven’t seen anything like this since the World Cup.”
Saturday the Maloof Money Cup South Africa continues with the World Championship Street Semi Finals and the Mini Mega Ramp contest.
