Fans are encouraged to bring their gently used skate shoes and skateboards to place in the collection barrels located throughout the Festival Village. Part of the Maloof Skate & Donate program, the shoes collected at the event, plus shoes collected at retail stores across the City, will be distributed to local kids and teens in need.
The Maloof Money Cup NY also features a 50,000 square-foot Festival Village featuring DJ’s, autograph signings with pro skaters, merchandise, food vendors and skateboarding activities for all ages. There will also be a Jumbotron in the Festival Village showing live feed from the contest. Access to the Festival Village is free and open to the public.
All Comers High Ollie Challenge and Best Line Contests in Festival Village
For the first time, Joe Maloof is giving local skateboarders a shot at becoming a nationally recognized skateboarder through two special all comer contests: the Maloof High Ollie Challenge and Best Line contest. The High Ollie Challenge Qualifiers and the Best Line Qualifiers are on Saturday in the Festival Village from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The top three New York local qualifiers will compete in a final High Ollie Contest Sunday on the street course in front of thousands of fans for a $500 cash prize.
On Sunday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. skaters will attempt to land their best tricks back to back in the Best Line contest in the Festival Village. The winner of the New York Best Line contest will join winners from 12 cities across the country (part of the Maloof Road Tour beginning in Chicago on June 11) in Las Vegas for the finals August 22 and 23 during MAGIC, the fashion industry’s largest tradeshow.
Tickets for the MMC NY contest are almost sold out, with only a few more general admission tickets available. Go to maloofmoneycup.com to purchase tickets. While tickets are necessary to get into the skate competition, the Festival Village is free and no ticket is required for entry.
