I don't usually do 2500-word interviews. And if I do, it's usually pretty easy to whittle them down. But talking to Garrett, I had to keep an eye on my recorder, as it was nearly full before I had gotten through all the topics. It's easy to forget he's only 23. In his own words, "I like to keep busy." So, in between spots, in the middle of Zero's Wet Hot American Summer tour, we spoke about world perspective and epiphanies, and then we spoke about Russian palaces and egg races. I think we covered all the bases. —Adam Sullivan
There are video-part pros, and there are contest pros. And then there's Chris Cole. He's put out half a dozen major video parts, raising the bar with each one. He's won most, if not all, the major contests at least once. And he's shut down more historical spots than Napoleon. But underneath it all Chris is a skater's skater who's probably just as much of a fan as you are. And now he's getting ready to skate the first-ever New York Maloof Money Cup. Repeat, anyone?—Adam Sullivan

Sacramento Kings co-owner Joe Maloof is expanding his skateboarding competitions and offering a $1 million bonus to any skater who can win four in a row. Maloof came up with the bonus as a way to keep momentum going following the third Maloof Money Cup Orange County last weekend in Costa Mesa, Calif.
"I thought it would set the bar high," Maloof said in a phone interview from Las Vegas, where his family owns the Palms Casino Resort. "It gives these kids an opportunity to stretch for the moon, because this will be one of the biggest prize purses in sports, really, when you look at it. It's pretty big."
