Long Ollie Recap by Steve Rodriguez - With Video

They came from as far as the end of Long Island for a chance at the $1000 prize at the first L.E.S. Long Ollie contest sponsored by the Maloof Money Cup NYC, Vans and 5boro. On a perfect Sunday afternoon in lower manhattan kids started showing up as early at 10am to get in some practice ollies. No thanks to almost every Subway line being delayed or not running on schedule I got literally about 50 texts asking to delay the start. We kicked off at about 2:30pm with 10 boards and people were hurling themselves over them to make it to the next distance.

When we got to about 18 boards it was only a select group of guys who were able to hang. By 21 boards it was down to 4 guys and it was anyones guess who would be the first to land it as they all could have done it but tired legs, screaming crowd and perfect timing all came into play. Right out the gate Sylvester "Doogie" Eduardo from Fort Lee, New Jersey snapped over the 21 and was caught by a celebrating crowd as he nervously awaited the next 3 guys in line who would spend the next 30 to 45 minutes trying to clear the distance. Crowd favorite and late for work Jose Vega, Damian from Manhattan, Shane McGrane and Brett Conti from Long Island all came so close but in the end no one could ride away clean. Doogie stopped worrying and breathed a sigh of relief as the crowd counted off his winnings one hundred at a time!

As everyone started to break up and skate the park I handed out tickets to this years Maloof Money Cup in NY to whoever was killing it.
