On Tuesday, December 14, the skateboarding community partnered with Ward 5 Councilman Harry Thomas Jr., Washington Convention and Sports Authority and D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, to donate gift bags stuffed with clothing and accessories to hundreds of local families and children— just in time for the holidays.
“Having the Convention and Sports Authority, Parks and Recreation, Councilmember Thomas and pro skater Darren Harper donate their time and efforts to make sure we could make an impact in D.C. means the world to us,” said Joe Maloof, founder of Maloof Skateboarding and owner of Sacramento Kings and Palms Casino Resort. “Between the D.C. community and our partner, Vans, I think we were able to make the holidays even brighter for the kids who came out today.”
Vans and Maloof Money Cup came to Washington, D.C., from Los Angeles where they gifted 1,000 children and families last Friday. Next on the Santa Giveaway stop is New York City, Saturday, December 18 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Open Road Park. Joe Maloof will join Steve Van Doren from Vans on their final stop in New York City to donate gift bags to hundreds of NYC children from area group homes, housing projects, The Door (youth services program), and other youth organizations in the area surrounding Open Road Park.
