Held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center as part of the new Ride Unltd. action sports initiative at MAGIC, the fashion industry’s largest event, 14 skaters made it to the finals. But it came down to two skaters: 22-year-old Christian Malouf from Tempe, Arizona and 19-year-old Aldrin Garcia from San Diego, Calif., who would compete for a new world record when the bar was raised to 45 inches. The contest footage will be submitted to the officials at Guinness for review and verification.
“I’m really glad to be here with my girlfriend on our two year anniversary,” said Garcia. “This just makes it 10 times better. And I’m hyped that I got to keep the world record in the Powell-Peralta family.”
“We are truly excited to have the world record set at our inaugural Ride Unltd. event” said Chris DeMoulin, President of MAGIC. “We have a great partnership with Maloof Skateboarding and we want to thank everyone who has come out to support this event – the skaters, the retailers and the brands.”
“The support amongst the core skate shops for our regional contests was amazing. And to come out here to MAGIC and see so many skate retailers, and then to see a new world record set – there was so much excitement in the crowd, and amongst the skaters. It was an unbelievable day.”
