Canarvon is a small dessert town on the diamond route between Kimberley and Cape Town. Just like most dessert towns, it is vulnerable to flooding and with potential water damage comes good drainage ditches. With all this concrete comes a lot of potential skate spots so we thought it best to stop over and handout 200 skateboards to the towns youths so they may set out to explore their ditches and hopefully call us one day to tell us where to come back and play.

Over the past few weeks I have been travelling with a crew of skate coaches from Indigo Skate Camp to bring about awareness to inhabitants of the vast Northern Cape territory, that the Maloof Money Cup is coming to their capital city of Kimberley in September this year.

Our experience in Canarvon if sharing skateboarding with around 300 school children was very humbling. Our message to them was simply; here is a skateboard, use it to get around town, explore your boundaries and let it present opportunities to meet friends from around the world.

Most of the 200 skateboards we handed out were to children who stood for their first time on skateboards on this day. Only as we were leaving Canarvon did we notice a few old skool boards make an appearance. The streets were buzzing with youthful activity as boys and girls were testing out their new boards. It was rad to see the youth of Canarvon take over their streets.
