Pizza and Hammers: Kimberley Weekend Blog
Written by Megogoserial.ru Меч Короля АртураWinter is among us in Kimberley, South Africa. It is also nearing testing time for those in school, so most of our regulars are cooped up studying for their big tests. As a result, only our most hardcore local skaters still find the time to make it to the skatepark after their studies. Take those variables and add them to cloudy skies and a weekend forecast filled with chances of rain, the previous sentence was only proven further.
Anyways…
Vert Fridays brought upon an unusual and more grueling contest- the longest pump contest. Yep, that’s right. The longest pump. Pump until your legs give out. Of course, the guys were required to reach and maintain a certain height during their run. Muhammad upped the Kimberley record by a few minutes and pumped for an exhausting 14 minutes. If that wasn’t enough, vert whiz Damian Bramley used his stamina to his full potential and stuck it out for 21 minutes before he couldn’t take it anymore. Brad Balie came along, always motivated to win, and upped Damian’s ante by a few seconds and took first.
Fridays Night Lights presented by Panarottis Kimberley brought another rad sesh under the lights full of sodas and delicious pie. Each skater was entered into a raffle to win some MMC gear and 3 lucky skaters ended up with a shirt, a hat, and yes; a complete skateboard. Plenty of pizza fueled several games of skate into the late hours of the night.
Last week’s rain date for the Game of Skate contest was held this Saturday. Skaters came from as far as Bloemfontein to try their luck for a chance at a deck. It was anyone’s game, and heavy hitters like Gerhard Botha, Rudolph Odendaal, Ernie Halberg, Alec Balie, Dylan Niemand, and a few others were laying it down. One particular match with Olivia Feilding and Gerhard Botha, a first round game, could have been a finals game, as it was still running while a few second round games were occurring in other lanes. In the end, Alec, Ernie, and Dylan made it to the finals. Alec set the first 6 or so tricks, giving several letters to his competitors. Alec finally fell and gave Ernie and Dylan a few shots to set their tricks, but it didn’t last long. Fakie flip sex change, fakie heel sex change, and nollie heels were a few tricks that Alec used to his advantage to take home a new Flip deck.
After the game of skate, it was pretty much a 4-hour long hammer-time session. The Bloem guys were throwing down on the 5 stair rail and hubbas. Armand, Chenai, and Dolf killed it! Armand and Chenai’s bs 5050 on the 5 rail definitely pumped up moustache to later throw one down of his own for the first time. He even took it to the A-Frame rail and the big 4 hubba! After his 5050 rampage, Moush threw a boardslide down the big 4 rail. This fool is hungry in every sense. He has an appetite for pizza and new tricks.
Sunday’s contest was held on the 3 stair area which included the 3 stair, of course, alongside the hubbas, manual pad, and the lauch to rail. Everyone killed it. The results can be found below!

Kimberley Weekend Update- Friday Night Lights, Kickflip Challenge, and More!
Written by AdminWeekend Update
It was another busy weekend at the Kimberley Plaza. Along with our usual ‘Vert Fridays’ vert clinics, the locals were anticipating our second week of “Friday Night Lights” presented by Panarottis Kimberley. After all, knowing how amazing their pizza is, who could blame ‘em? 51 kids came out to the skatepark to enjoy a 3 hour skate session under the lights with the homies and enjoy a good ol’ pizza party. Can’t go wrong. We even raffled off some sick Maloof Money Cup gear to a couple of lucky winners. If the rumor gets around that we’re raffling off a Maloof complete next week then things could get out of hand! The future of Friday Night Lights is only looking brighter.
Saturday’s game of skate was unfortunately rained out. Check back soon for a rain date. We did however get some rad photos of the lightning storm that Saturday evening brought us (check the photo gallery!).
Sunday’s contest, the kickflip challenge, continued as scheduled with a bit of a tweak. With some input from our locals, we decided to mix up the format from the most consecutive flatground kickflips to an obstacle challenge. Each skater got 5 tries to flick their most kickflips on each of the A-Frame, the euro gap, the 2-stair, off the ledge, and flat ground. The new format encouraged several new participants to enter the contest and push themselves to try their kicklfips on different obstacles. We saw some relative consistency from several of the skaters, but Brad and Martin were looking unstoppable. Check below for the results.
We’ll see you next Friday for Friday Night Lights! Check below for the photo gallery!

Weekend Trip Photos from Rudi Jeggle
Written by Megogoserial.ru Меч Короля АртураMMC South Africa photographer and good friend of MMC Rudi Jeggle made a weekend trip from Johannesburg to Kimberley to check out the plaza and shoot some photos. Among our several photo missions included a visit to Mokala National Park, street skating missions, and of course, photo sessions at the skatepark. On Saturday morning we ventured into downtown Kimberley to interact with the locals and shoot photos. We even got a taste of the reality of harsh inner city life.

Written by Megogoserial.ru Меч Короля АртураWill Meleng grabs Kimberley Game of Skate Title & Brad Balie Shines in Weekend Competitions
Written by Megogoserial.ru Меч Короля АртураSaturday yielded yet another ruthless day in the sun, but that didn’t stop the skaters from coming out to enter the game of skate. Cousins Jacques Reynecke and Dylan Niemand skate flat almost every day in hope of FINALLY taking the game of skate, and with how solid their tricks were looking, it was possible that one of them could take it. Kimberley flatground champ Theo Setsetse was kindly asked to help judge (since he takes every game!), and happily judged and checked out what the locals have to bring to the table (or floor).
One of the highlights of the day was Kimberley’s female skate sensation, Olivia Fielding, blowing minds once again with her flatground skills as she took out some of our better skaters and skated into the semifinals. Look out for her fakie fs 360’s, switch fs shuvits, and heelflips; she’s got them ALL on lock! Cousins Jacques and Dylan ended up facing each other in the semifinals, with Dylan advancing to the finals. Super-grom Brad Balie also made it to the finals, which was no surprise since he is winning or placing in almost every contest. Finally, Will Meleng was our 3rd finalist, crushing everyone in his path with bs heels, double flips, and bs 360 ollies. With Brad, Dylan, and Will in the finals, it was anyone’s game. Brad ended up going out first, and with Dylan at T, it seemed like Will had this one in the bag. Dylan ended up coming back and getting Will at “T” with nollie 360 shuvit, switch fs pressure flip, and nollie flip. After a few tricks, Will prevailed with a bs 360 and took Dylan out for the win. Our top 3 skaters went home with some rad prizes, and since Session Magazine was kind enough to hook us up with a few stacks of the new mag, the semifinalists didn’t go home empty-handed!
Saturday night found some of the locals goofing around with the megaphone and hyping up a 5 stair session. Highlights from that session include DBH’s tre flip and heel flip and first-time ollies from Alec Balie, Micael Matthews, and Brendon Molena.
Sunday was the longest launch competition, and easily the most fun to watch due to the amount of bodies slamming the ground! Some standouts of the beginners division were Thapelo and Muhammad Hassan, however, Jon Alan, Enrique, and Arno took the top 3. The advanced division finalists should not be surprising, as Brad, Jacque, and Alec took the top 3 as they usually seem to.
Thanks to Session Magazine for hooking up some mags for the locals, thanks to our judges, and thanks to everyone for coming out to enjoy a rad weekend! Check below for all the results.
