The Maloof All City Contest Wrap Up
The Maloof All City Contest is a head-to-head jam format contest that brings the best skaters from all over South Africa together to battle it out for R14,000 in cash prizes. The 10 teams that qualified sent in 2-minute videos on maloofmoneycup.com in order to secure their spot in the All City Championships. Teams came from all over SA, representing 3 teams from Cape Town, 2 Johannesburg teams, Pretoria, East Coast, Bloemfontein, Mafikeng, and the home team, Kimberley.
Our all star panel of judges and emcees including Lizard King on the mic, Bryan Herman on the clock, along with veteran street killer Felix Arguelles, Manny Santiago, Braydon Szafranski, Justin Brock, and SA street champs Warrick Delport and Wandile Msomi held it down. There was too much rad skating to comprehend, including some insane shredding from 20SK8 in Cape Town and the East Coast team representing Jeffreys Bay. In the end, it was Team Plankie from Cape Town in 3rd place winning R2000, and Team Johannesburg in 2nd winning R4000. Brendan Jack Dyamond’s annihilation on the medium section and Adam Woof’s nollie flip down the big 4 were sick, but unfortunately not enough to pull them into 1st place.
Even though Sechaba the Bakersman from Team Alliance (Johannesburg) got injured early in the game, Ofentse Ramakanye took charge and skated 2 sections each round. Teammates Sam Khumalo and Dlamini Dlamini also held it down. In the end, Team Alliance took home the All City title and R8000 along with all the perks that MMC provided. Dlamini Dlamini’s switchd lipslides down the big 4 rail along with his frontside flips were a few tricks that sealed the deal for Team Alliance. Mad respect to our guest pro panel of judges and to all the skaters for making the All City Contest a success! See you next year!

Skateboarding for Hope-Johannesburg
Gavin from Boogaloos sent us the recap and photos of the amazing Skateboarding for Hope event held at Stoneridge Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Check it out!
It was a perfect day at Stoneridge with a total of 62 skaters participating in the jam sessions. Durban ripper, Thalente Biyela flew up from KZN to participate in this stop and that move paid off for sure, as he walked away with loads of cash and the ultimate prize - The Wildcard entry to the MMC Am!
Big cash winners of the day included:
Thalente Biyela - Body jar revert
Adam Woolf- Front Side Flip
Sam Vider - 50/50 Front Side Lip
Thanks to Ashley for bringing the kids out from Alex. Those kids show some up and coming talent for sure! Besides the lack of power from "City Power" for part of the day, the Alex & local rippers definitely unleashed their power. Thanks to Wandile and Sam for keeping it real, as usual! 25 Element boards were handed out to needy kids along with loads of giveaways from Converse & Maloof plus R5k in cash won!
Maloof Money Cup, Kumba Iron Ore, Northern Cape Tourism & Boogaloos - What a Legacy!
Converse, Dickies, Element, VZ, Monster Energy, Volcom, Iron Fist, AV Skateboarding - Thank You for supporting and being a part of this amazing initiative.
Thank you to Old School Productions
See you in Cape Town!

September 1st Skate Jam at Kimberley Plaza
We decided to mix it up a bit for the first of the month and did this weekend's contest a little bit differently. Boogaloos was kind enough to provide us with a street course to use on road tours, and when we aren't on the road, the kids are stepping it up on the obstacles here at the Maloof Skate Plaza in Kimberley. We decided to have a contest for both beginners and advanced divisions on the Boogaloos obstacles.
With only a handful of days left before the park closes for renovations for the Maloof Money Cup, kids are more hungry to shred than we've seen in months! The beginners consisted of 14 total skaters, and after 2 jam sessions, we chose the top 6 overall to compete in the finals. Some standouts include Enrique Ortell's pop shuvit off the box as well as a kickflip off, as well as some killer skating from De Aar skater Werner Smith and Kimberley local Ebrahim Hassan AKA BB. In the end it was the overall consistency and terrorization of all obstacles from Caleb Goa that earned him first place and a new set of wheels. Darren Joseph was right behind Caleb and earned second place an R200 at Thando Skate Shop for tricks like rock n roll on the wedge and 180's off the box. The beginner's killed it and they certainly won't be considered beginners for much longer!
Potchefstroom skaters made the drive to Kimberley to skate the plaza for the weekend and had some of the Kimberley locals nervous for the advanced division contest, those guys kill it!
We decided to include previous beginners contest winners Mohammad Hassan and Damian Bramley in the advanced division for a chance to skate with the big guys. I think a lot of skaters were surprised to see how well Damian skated against some of the older guys; his consistency and ability to skate many of the obstacles earned him R100 at Thando Skate Shop and third place! In the finals we saw a smooth the flip from Theo off the box along with a 50-50 front shut on the grind box, earning him second place and R200 at Thando Skate Shop. Potchefstroom local, Luwayne Bothma, came out of nowhere with some insane tricks like kickflip back lip and fakie big spin lip on the flat bar along with a huge shuvit tailgrap to flat off the launch ramp. Luwayne earned first place and a new set of trucks!
Congrats to all the skaters for holding it down on the first of the month!

Skateboarding for Fun Activation
Thursday was poppin’ at the Maloof Plaza for the Skateboarding for Fun activation! Filled with skate clinics, giveways, live performances, and best trick contests, SABC was there to catch the action and film in insert for ‘Morning Live’ to air this Monday at 6:45am!
Over 50 kids were bussed in from Galeshewe township in Kimberley, South Africa for a skateboarding coaching clinic held by Maurice Obaray, Chinner, and Kimberley wildcard winners Warrick Delport, DBH, and Gerhard Botha. Thanks to Boogaloos for sponsoring 24 skateboards that were given away for free to the skateboarders who showed the most potential during the clinic!
Some standouts of the day included the dance-off between 8 year old Muhammad Hassan and a member of the Krisis dance crew. Muhammad killed it! He was also interviewed by SABC, which made it what he claims to be his third TV news appearance. The skate clinics were followed by awesome performaces by the Krisis Crew, Extreme dot com, Majaivana, and Black Converse dance crew(s) and a performace by Blue Skye. To top of the craziness, the Maloof babes threw a mini party on the course, it was insane!
We capped the day off with 2 best trick jam sessions featuring Kimberley’s best skaters.
The first jam session featured cash for tricks, where skaters were given R100 for each gnarly trick they could throw down! Some standout cash winners included DBH, Gerhard Botha, Dylan Baylefield, and William Jenkins, to name a few.
Dudes were throwing down on the tech section in the second jam session! The second jam session was judged with help of our guest judges, Kimberley wildcard winners DBH, Warrick Delport, and Gerhard Botha along with Maurice Obaray. In the end it was Jacques Reynecke in third with a fakie bigflip on the bank, and Martin Kotze in second with a manual up the many pad along the flat all the way to the stairs. Nico van Hayssteen battled for a BS 5-0 back 180 out and pulled it, earning him first place. Congrats to all the Kimberley skaters for killing it!
Big thanks goes out to Gavin from Boogaloos for the donation of the skateboards, the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture as well as everybody from Northern Cape Tourism for making this event a success! Big thanks also goes out to the Krisis Crew, Extreme dot com, Majaivana, and Black Converse dance crews and Blue Skye for putting on some killer performances!

Kimberley weekend festivities
It was a busy weekend at the Maloof Skate Plaza in Kimberley, South Africa. Friday started off with a contest on the quarter pipe. Standouts included Lleyellyn Botha, Brad Baley, Gerhard Botha, Jino Modise, and Armand van der Merwe. Gerhard took 1st place with a big flip on the quarter pipe. Trailing Gerhard was Jino Modise with a frontside rock on the big quarter, and Armand van der Merwe in third with afrontside air transfer. It's rad to see all the skaters skate more transition! Later that night we turned on the lights til 9pm to do a bit of filming. Marty Kotze noseslid the big 4 stair hubba, it was sick!
Saturday consisted of two contests including the skaters' favorite game of skate along with a new concept, the obstacle game of skate.
Game of skate finalists included Martin Kotze, Theo Setsetse, and William Jenkins. Martin took several out with tricks like fakie big flips and shuvit late flips. Will made it with his huge bag of tricks and Theo took over with his consistency and switch tricks. In the end, Theo came out on top, with Will in second and Theo in third.
The obstacle game of skate was a new concept that we tried at the plaza. Skaters played skate on any obstacle in the whole park. With 3 rounds before the finals, some standout games included a game between Jino and Armand and another between Damian and Jacques. In the end, Gerhard Botha's quarter pipe consistency landed him a new Mystery deck and 1st place. Theo Setsetse came in second with Jacques Reynecke right behind in third.
Sunday was the youngsters' time to shine during the beginners contest. It was cool to see those who would normally be too timid to enter our regular best trick contest and give credit to the beginners for putting in work. Newcomer Dion Booicen impressed the judges with his wallie up the wedge and ollies off the box, landing him third place. Plaza regular Aiden Peterson ollied the 3 stair and kickflipped off the box, earning him second place. Our most enthusiastic and energetic skater, 8 year old Muhammad Hassan, hands down swept the competition by skating everything in the park and doing a variety of tricks like Bertleman slides on the bank, nose grabs off the ledge, hippy jumping over the flatbar, and grinding up and down the bank. Congrats to all our beginners for shredding the contest and putting the finishing touches on a rad weekend at the skate plaza. Things are starting to pick up here at the plaza as we wind down for the MMC next month! Check out the photo gallery for additional coverage of the weekend's events.
