Course Design Committee New York
Each year, our course design committee includes a top pro skateboarder who works with the experts at California Skateparks to design the street courses for the competition. For our first-ever New York contest, we brought in legendary NYC skateboarding advocate and owner of 5Boro, Steve Rodriguez, and Pro Skater Geoff Rowley to create a competition course featuring replicas and near replicas of popular skate spots from each of the five boroughs. Located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, the course will be donated to the City as a permanent skatepark after the MMC contest. Vert Design Orange County
The 2009 Maloof Money Cup Carl’s Jr. Pro Vert Championship featured the first ever mini mega ramp with a 20-ft gap into a unique vert ramp. Conceived of by pro skaters Bob Burnquist, Jake Brown and 2008 MMC vert champ Pierre Luc Gagnon (PLG), it featured a rainbow rail and was divided into sections for the competition format. This year, Bucky Lasek and Rune Glifberg have been tapped to design the 2010 Vert Ramp along with PLG and Bob Burnquist. MMC is dedicated to push the progression in skateboarding and this year the pros have really come up with a next level ramp that will be more entertaining and challenging than any other vert ramp in history. Details will be released soon.

OVERVIEW
At the 2007 X Games, Joe Maloof watched on live TV as pro skateboarder Jake Brown took a frightening 50-foot fall during the Big Air Vert competition landing directly on his back. To everyone’s relief, Brown walked away unhurt from what could have been a life changing event. It was Brown’s fall that inspired Joe and Gavin Maloof to create the Maloof Skateboarding Assistance Foundation. Established in 2008, the Maloof Skateboarding Assistance Foundation is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to :
Providing monetary support to professional skaters who suffer catastrophic injuries while skateboarding To build skate parks in order to provide a safe and legal environment for skaters. Providing insurance to all skateboarders who compete in the Maloof Money Cup. In 2009, Monster Energy sponsored the first annual “Ante Up for Skateboarding” Poker Tournament benefitting the MSAF. Jake Brown took first place in the tournament and instead of keeping his winnings he donated everything back to the foundation. The event was such a success the second annual "Ante Up for Skateboarding" Poker Tournament was held again at the Palms Resort and Casino in 2010.
MSAF hosted an opportunity drawing in the Festival Village of the Maloof Money Cup. Following the MMC, MSAF held a special online auction offering a Palms Resort and Casino getaway package with two nights complimentary stay in the Maloof Brothers Suite at Palms Place, dinner for two at Nove Italiano restaurant, plus pro skateboarder Jake Brown and friends joined the winner to make sure they had a great time.Other items auctioned off were a one-of-a-kind Gibson Guitar and a autographed signature skateboards from many of the pro’s that skated in the MMC.

"We're thrilled to have so much support for our contest from brands like Volcom that are rooted in skateboarding," said Joe Maloof. "Volcom is a tremendous partner and we're looking forward to showcasing the VOLCOM STREET PRO on two all new concrete skate plazas as we take Maloof Money Cup bi-coastal this year."
The first MMC event of 2010 will take place June 5th-6th in Queens, New York at the former Astral Fountain in Flushing Meadows Park. Construction of the 16,000-square-foot skate park has already begun, lead by the design team at California Skateparks with input from longtime Volcom pro, Geoff Rowley, NY skate legend Steve Rodriguez and 2009 MMC street pro winner, Chris Cole.
The second MMC event of 2010 will take place August 4-9th at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA. Stay tuned for more info coming up on both events. Check back at Volcom.com/skate and The Maloof Money Cup for more info.

So the MMC street team was out in full force at our first street team event of 2010 and where else could be finer the the VANS Skatepark in Orange County, Ca! The weather was terrible if you were trying to skate outside, but it was perfect for a skate event at VANS due to it's HUGE indoor skate park. Despite the bad weather, we had about 3 X's as many skaters and spectators alike came out to show the MMC some love and support. We had folks like MRZ takin' action shots of the skaters throughout the day, the head of the Central Valley Am Jam Competition in northern California stop by with their kids to skate it up (MMC is giving away a spot in THE WORLD INDUSTRIES AM STREET CONTEST AT MMC 2010 IN ORANGE COUNTY,CA to the top overall winner at this comp which starts March 13th in Atwater, CA) and the legendary Jerry Madrid was hanging out with the skaters. We don't bring in official judges for these contests, we let YOU, the skaters, choose who was throwin' down the most on each of the mini-comps. Keep in mind that the street team isn't allowed to win in these comps we do, so all you skaters still got a shot at winning our stuff throughout the year.
MALOOF SKATEBOARDING
Maloof Skateboarding aims to raise the visibility of skateboarding across the U.S. and globally through professional and amateur contests and partnerships, to support local skate shops and to give back to the communities it touches.
MALOOF MONEY CUP (MMC)
Maloof Money Cup, the world’s greatest skateboarding event, is a premier showcase for amateur and professional skateboarding founded by Joe and Gavin Maloof, whose family owns the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise and the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
MMC MISSION
Joe and Gavin’s mission was to create a new type of skate contest; from giving the skaters the reigns in designing the contest’s custom street courses and featuring the most diverse collection of skaters ever assembled for a contest; to working with cities to leave behind world class skate parks.
In true Maloof style, the brothers entered the industry looking for ways to raise the bar on competitive skateboarding.
- The inaugural Maloof Money Cup was held in 2008 at the OC Fair & Event Center in Orange County, Calif. and drew more than 200,000 attendees.
- First to offer the biggest cash purse of any skateboarding competition, with a cash and prize purse of nearly a half million dollars. Since then, we’ve upped the ante and offered a $1,000,000 bonus to any street skater who can win four MMC championships consecutively.
- The only contest to let the skaters take the lead on the design of the competition street courses, vert ramps and to provide overall input on the contest format.
- The Maloofs were also the first to invest the time and money needed to build actual concrete skate plazas, built for the contest that replicate true street skating.
- In 2010, the Maloof Money Cup presented by Vans expanded to Queens, New York, becoming the first to donate a contest-level skate park back to its host city.
SUPPORT A LOCAL SKATE SHOP
This Christmas, Maloof Skateboarding launched a campaign to support local skate shops across the country. Skateboarding started with the skate shops and the integrity of the industry is tied with their success. The Christmas promotion highlighted local skate shops during the busiest shopping season of the year and encouraged everyone to support them year-round.
MALOOF SKATEBOARDING GLOBAL INITIATIVE
Maloof Skateboarding Global Initiative, launched in December 2010, continues Maloof Skateboarding‘s mission to bring skateboarding to communities around the world and work in partnership with local governments to leave permanent skate parks behind. The goal is to provide a positive activity in which kids and youth can participate, keeping them off the streets, away from crime and inspiring a new generation of skateboarders, all while giving back to each community it touches.
SKATEBOARDING FOR HOPE – SOUTH AFRICA
In December 2010, the Maloof Global Skateboarding Initiative kicked off with the “Skateboarding for Hope” tour across South Africa, a 10-month tour and outreach program across 17 towns offering pro demos, skate clinics and contests. Throughout the tour, Maloof Skateboarding, the Provincial Government and their partners will be donating thousands of shoes, decks and skate gear to provide underprivileged youth in South Africa the opportunity to take up skateboarding. The tour leads up to the first ever Maloof Money Cup World Skateboarding Championships in Kimberley Sept. 30-Oct 2, 2011.
MALOOF U SKATE MADNESS
In addition to the 2011 Maloof Money Cup events (cities and dates will be announced soon), Maloof Skateboarding is also launching Maloof U Skate Madness, a new contest in partnership with Digital College Network with the goal of supporting and bringing awareness to the millions of college skaters around the country and to encourage college students to continue skating throughout their college years and beyond.
